Yoga: stems from the Sanskrit word yogah, meaning "union;" the process of conscious living, bringing mind, body and spirit into union. Strengthen the body.. Quiet the mind.. Nourish the Spirit. The practice of exercising the body though physical postures is called Hatha Yoga. There are many styles of Hatha Yoga such as: Ashtanga Yoga, Bikram Yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Iyengar Yoga and Kripalu Yoga, etc. Hatha Yoga Postures develop strength, flexibility and endurance of the physical body. The yoga postures exercise our muscles, nervous system, organs, and realign our skeletal frame for optimal efficiency. Attention to deep breathing throughout the yoga practice strengthens the respiratory system, soothes the nervous system and promotes peace and mindfulness. Developing mindfulness is a powerful tool for dealing with the everyday stresses of existence. The regular practice of yoga enables you to expand your limitations. As the body becomes more flexible, the mind becomes more flexible. As the body gains strength, the mind gains strength. As you learn to maintain a centered state of balance physically, you spontaneously feel more centered and balanced mentally and emotionally. Yoga is a science of balanced living, a path for realizing full human potential. The practice of yoga postures (Hatha Yoga) is one component of this science. There are many types and styles of Hatha Yoga classes ranging in pacing from slow to aerobic and ranging in physical intensity from gentle to very vigorous. It is good to try the many styles and studios in your community so you may find the one that is just right for you. The practice of yoga is worthy of your valuable time and attention. Yoga will help you illuminate gifts within yourself - gifts of greater harmony, peace, mindfulness and health.
