Why is Yoga great for kids?!
Yoga is a whole-body practice: mind,
body, breath. Yoga postures enhance functional strength, flexibility
and coordination for the body as well as build the skills
of concentration, determination, and focus for the mind. Deep, full
lung breathing taught and practiced in yoga naturally calms and soothes
the nervous system releasing stress. As we do yoga, we focus our minds
onto our bodies as our bodies move in and out of strengthening and
stretching postures with the flow of our deep breath. This is union of
mind, body and breath. Children (and adults) feel best and function
best in this state of balance where mind, body and breath (spirit) are
integrated, working together in equanimity.
Choose from the following age-appropriate yoga classes for kids.
Children ages 11 years old and up are welcomed to attend with their
parent our regular drop-in style yoga classes listed in the class
schedule and class descriptions sections.
Yoga Friends:
For 4 to 6 year olds
This yoga class for children 4 to 6 years of age embraces the
innate imagination and curiosity of children to playfully teach yoga
postures as they relate to animals and nature. Enhanced with music and
dance, intervals of both silly and focused-fun, we stretch, strengthen
and breath into the delight of our bodies.

Young Yogi:
For 1st thru 4th Graders
Elementary age children love yoga as it challenges their bodies and
engages their minds. We warm-up a variety of playful yoga and movement
games; move into fitness on the yoga ball; and then into the deeper
breath-to-movement focus of practicing a variety of yoga postures. Deep
yoga breathing is taught and the children come to feel the calming,
stress-releasing effects of slow deep breathing. Class ends with quiet
time and a guided relaxation. Children deepen their body awareness and
mind awareness in this nurturing, non-competitive
atmosphere. Focused-fun!

This class will start again Fall of 2008.
Registration Information
Send Registration and Check Payment to YOGA ON YORK.
Enrollment is on a first come basis.
Cancellation Policy: Registrants canceling 5 or more days prior to
the session start date will receive 100% refund. Registrants canceling
with 4 days or fewer to the class session start date will receive a 50%
refund. Once the class has begun no refunds will be issued. There are
no refunds or class credit for missed classes. If the instructor
cancels the session a full refund will be issued to all registered. If
the instructors cancels a class a make-up date will be established or a
one-class refund will be issued.
Yoga Birthday Parties
Looking for a fun, creative and memorable birthday party experience for
your child and an easy birthday party experience for you? A yoga party
at YOGA ON YORK is just that and more. Great for elementary age kids
and tweens.
Yoga Parties
include:
Rental of the studio for up to a 2 hour party. (Party host comes early to set-up and decorate the studio)
Two banquet tables provided.
Yoga Class - The party starts with a playful age-appropriate yoga class
tailored to your birthday group. An atmosphere of joyous
focused-fun with skillfully lead yoga games, friendship-building
partner poses and playful yoga poses (approximately
45 minutes). After the yoga class, the party continues with your food,
party favors and your activities such as pinata, dancing, hoola
hooping.
